What is The New Appalachian Workshop?
The New Appalachian Workshop is a creative studio and consulting venture founded by author and historian Scott J. Bradley. It bridges art, history, and imagination through books, museum consulting, SCA craft patterns, and heritage-inspired design.
-
Do you publish your own books?
Yes. Scott self-publishes his fiction and historical works under The New Appalachian Workshop imprint, using IngramSpark and KDP for print and eBook distribution. Each title reflects his love for mythic realism, exploring often overlooked landscapes, and the echoes of human history.
-
Can I hire you for museum or heritage consulting?
Absolutely. Scott offers professional services in exhibit planning, interpretation, collections management, and strategic development for museums, archives, and cultural organizations—reach out today.
-
What are SCA armour patterns, and are they beginner-friendly?
The Workshop’s armour patterns are digital templates for building lightweight, durable SCA combat gear from plastic or other modern materials. Each pattern includes clear instructions and is suitable for both beginners and seasoned crafters looking to experiment with ergonomic designs.
-
How can I stay updated on new releases and events?
Join the mailing list on the website or follow The New Appalachian Workshop on Facebook for updates on upcoming books, museum projects, and SCA events.
-
Do you create custom armour, props, or designs?
Not at the moment. While I occasionally take on custom commissions—armour, garb, or SCA weapons—my focus right now is on literary projects and my work in the museum field. The digital SCA armour patterns available here remain the best way I can support the new SCA fighter until I have more time to accept new custom work.
