About Scott Bradley
I’m Scott Bradley, a fantasy author and public historian writing stories of ruins, myth, memory, and the things history fails to bury.
I write stories shaped by ruins, memory, myth, and the long afterlife of power. My fiction is drawn to the places where history stops feeling settled, where old civilizations still press their weight against the living, and where the past is never as buried as people hope.
My primary fiction project is The Echoes Saga, a nonlinear far-future science-fantasy series set in a world where history has weathered into myth and the machinery of ancient systems can still be mistaken for the work of gods. The series moves across deep time, broken empires, buried knowledge, monstrous inheritances, and the uneasy survival of memory. If you are new to my work, the best place to begin is The Cave of Past and Present, the first published novel in the saga. I am also at work on Of Regret: A Monster’s Story, a darker entry in the same universe. Alongside fiction, I am also write biography of my father, A Man in the Woods.
My work as an author is inseparable from my background in history. I hold a master’s degree in public history and have spent more than twenty years in museums and heritage work, including sixteen years at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. That experience taught me to see the world through objects, landscapes, absences, institutions, and the stories people build around what survives. It is part of why my fiction lingers over archaeological texture, contested memory, and the uneasy border between myth and record.
I am based in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The New Appalachian Workshop grows out of older roots: I grew up in Meigs County, Ohio, on a back-to-the-earth farm where nature and history were not abstractions but daily realities. The name reflects that inheritance. It is a place for work that is made with care, grounded in the real, and built to endure. On this site, that work begins with books.
For readers who love fiction with deep-time worldbuilding, archaeological atmosphere, philosophical pressure, and large historical consequences, you are in the right place. Here you’ll find novels, updates on current projects, and news from the wider world of my writing.
I also continue to work with museums, archives, and cultural organizations on interpretation, strategy, governance, collections, and practical documentation. That work remains part of what I do, but this page is first and foremost the home of my writing. If you are looking for consulting services, you can find them through the dedicated consulting section of the site.
